In 1993, The Conscious Daughters approached revolutionary hip-hop artist Paris at a club and passed him their demo tape. At the time, Paris was in the process of starting his first independent venture, Scarface Records and would soon sign The Conscious Daughters to his label. By mid-year, the Scarface Records family was born with the release of Paris' Sleeping with the Enemy and TCD's Ear To The Street.
The first single and video release, "Fonky Expedition" officially put CMG and The Special One (TCD) on the map, with their debut album, "Ear to the Street" selling over 300,000 copies and yielding a cross-country tour. With three singles and three videos from that project, The Conscious Daughters had finally gained national recognition.
In 1996, their second effort, Gamers was released and sold over 200,000 copies, entering the Billboard Chart with a bullet. By continuing to bring bangin’ beats to the streets, TCD once again rocked the world with their "female baller" anthem and title track single.
Now in 2005, The Conscious Daughters again are poised to bring heat on Paris' latest venture, Guerrilla Funk Recordings, with their third effort, "The Nutcracker Suite." Featuring themes of self-empowerment and sisterhood with a hardcore edge, The Conscious Daughters continue to prove that they have their collective thumb on the pulse of the street.
By featuring world-class guest appearances by Kurupt, Roscoe, Yukmouth (of the Luniz), Spice 1, Suga T, Mystic and Cougnut, and by sporting raw-edged production work by Paris and Sacramento producer Rick Rock (Jay-Z, Mystikal, Mack 10, Ice Cube, 2Pac), "The Nutcracker Suite" is packed with head-noddin' beats that compliment TCD's in-your-face style of rhyming.
A necessary compliment to the Guerrilla Funk family, this crew of dope female MCs provides a sorely-needed female perspective in hip-hop that rarely gets the attention it deserves.
